Galle is located in the south western tip of Sri Lanka. It is the capital of the Southern province. Famous for its Fort. Originally the Portuguese built Galle Fort in the 16th century. However, it was in the Dutch era that significant ramifications were made, and it became a true fortress.
Galle Fort now has many small restaurants in the courtyard area. These are really picturesque and have a Mediterranean colonial style about them.
In addition you can also see the Dutch influence with the 18th century Church and the much photographed Galle Lighthouse.
