Tema Cruise Terminal: Accra’s Cruise Gateway

Tema Cruise Terminal, also known as Tema Port, is Ghana’s main cruise gateway and sits around 25–30 km east of central Accra. It is a busy working commercial port. Therefore, cruise guests should use pre-arranged transport or a taxi rather than attempt to explore on foot. From central Accra, the journey follows the Accra–Tema motorway and usually takes around 45–90 minutes, depending heavily on traffic.

What Can You See on a Short Shore Excursion?

Even with limited time, a private shore excursion can introduce you to Accra’s most memorable highlights. Visit Independence Square and the Black Star Gate. Discover Ghana’s independence story at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. Explore colourful Jamestown and its fishing community, or browse traditional crafts at the Arts Centre. A local guide can tailor the route around traffic, your ship’s arrival time and your interests, helping you make the most of your day ashore.

Cruise Lines Calling at Tema

Tema is mainly visited by world-cruise, luxury and expedition-style ships rather than large, regular mainstream itineraries. Recent and scheduled calls include Viking Cruises, Silversea, Seabourn, Crystal, Regent Seven Seas, Azamara and Swan Hellenic. Port calls can change from season to season, so guests should always check their own itinerary.

Why Choose a Private Shore Excursion?

Cruise ship group tours can involve large coaches, fixed schedules and limited flexibility. With a private Guides4me shore excursion from Tema Cruise Terminal, you can travel at your own pace with a friendly local guide and private transport. Spend more time at the places that interest you, adapt your itinerary if traffic changes and discover local stories, food and hidden corners that large groups often miss. Most importantly, your guide plans the day carefully around your ship’s schedule, giving you confidence that you will return to the terminal in good time.
