The Island of the Gods: What to Do in Bali

Bali may be one of more than 17,000 islands in Indonesia, but the “island of the gods” is not one to overlook. Beautiful beaches, temples and more. Here are some of the reasons you should visit Bali:

Explore the island’s coast

Bali has hundreds of kilometres of coast and lots of great beaches to explore. Go surfing at Canggu or Kuta beach, diving off the coast of Amed or Candidasa, or swimming at Uluwatu’s Bingin beach. If you don’t want to get into the water, party under the stars at Seminyak beach.

Experience Bali’s spiritual side

There’s a reason Bali is often called “the land of a thousand temples”. It has more than 20,000. If you want to visit some of the island’s oldest and most sacred temples, Ubud is a good place to go. Visit Gunung Lebah Temple, an 8th-century temple, or go to the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, home to three temples and over 600 monkeys. You can also watch a traditional Balinese dance show at Ubud Palace. Ubud is a great place to go to relax, do some yoga, and forget all stress too. Just like Julia Roberts in the movie Eat Pray Love.

Go island-hopping

If you want a break from the main island, you can visit a number of other islands from Bali. Nusa Penida is the largest of the three Nusa islands and probably the most popular. Less than an hour away from Bali by boat, it’s home to what has been called one of the world’s most “Instagrammable” beaches: Kelingking Beach. But if you want something a bit quieter, go to Gili Air. With no cars and beautiful white-sand beaches, it’s the perfect place to relax.
