“‘Tis the season to be jolly,” according to a popular Christmas carol that asks everyone to enjoy a happy Christmas. But many people find it difficult to keep themselves jolly over the winter holiday season, which starts with Thanksgiving in November and includes Christmas and New Year’s. From November to January, extra stress can come from worries about money, missing family and friends, or just trying not to eat or drink too much, according to a survey for the American Psychological Association.

In the survey of over 2,000 US adults, 41% said they feel extra stress over the holiday season, and 43% said stress stops them from enjoying the holidays. With so many reasons not to feel jolly about the holidays, many people might say something similar to Ebenezer Scrooge’s famous line in A Christmas Carol: “Bah! Humbug!”
