Take a Bullet Train from Madrid to Barcelona for €22

Spain’s national railway company, Renfe, is offering bullet train tickets between Spain’s two largest cities, Barcelona and Madrid, for just €22.

The offer is for tickets on Renfe’s low-cost service, Avlo, which began operating between the two cities in 2021. And it’s not just for Barcelona and Madrid, but for travel between all nine Avlo destinations.

Moving at up to 330 kilometres per hour, the Avlo trains will travel the 600 kilometres between Barcelona and Madrid in as little as 150 minutes, although most trains will make more stops and take about three hours.

There are 21 departures a day from 0630 til 20:40

Japan’s fastest bullet trains take about 150 minutes to travel about 550 kilometres between Tokyo and Osaka, but at a cost of about $140.

Spain’s high-speed rail network is slightly longer than Japan’s 3,041 kilometres, according to the International Union of Railways. At 3,330 kilometres long, it’s the second longest in the world after China’s enormous 35,000 kilometre network.

If the train is not your thing you can see the direct plane schedules here.

The journey time is about 80 minutes
