Baalbek is one of Lebanon’s most extraordinary destinations. Set in the beautiful Bekaa Valley, the city is famous for its enormous Roman temples, ancient ruins and thousands of years of history. UNESCO describes Baalbek as one of the finest examples of Imperial Roman architecture, with monumental structures built over more than two centuries.

Where Is Baalbek?

Baalbek lies inland in the Bekaa Valley, close to the Anti-Lebanon mountain range. It is approximately 86 kilometres from Beirut by road, making it possible to visit as part of a day trip from the capital. The journey typically takes around 1½ hours, although traffic and road conditions can affect travelling time.

From Tripoli, Baalbek is approximately 97 kilometres by road, with a driving time of roughly 1½ hours. This makes Baalbek an excellent addition to a wider tour of northern and eastern Lebanon.
