Rila Monastery is a famous landmark, not only because of its history but for its beauty and magnificent architecture. The Monastery is the biggest and most well-known Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria.

A UNESCO World Heritage site that is believed to have been built between 927-968, during the reign of Tsar Peter I. Famous for its detailed frescoes, architecture, and historical significance. It is one of Bulgaria’s most popular tourist destinations.

The Seven Lakes

Also let’s not forget the Seven Lakes of Rila. The lakes are located in the picturesque Damgski area in north west Rila Mountain, between 2095 and 2535 metres above sea level. It may be a long hike to the lakes but it’s definitely worth it as you can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views, once you are there.
