Phuket is an island of endless wonder.
For a first‑time visitor there is so much to see and do. Explore bright sandy beaches like Patong, Kata and Karon, where the sea meets coconut palms and sunsets are sculpted in gold. Wander through Old Phuket Town and be enchanted by its Sino‑Portuguese architecture, colourful shophouses, street art and quiet cafés. Climb to the Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill for sweeping views over the island. Also visit Wat Chalong to feel the calm and see the elegant golden chedi and richly painted murals. For nature lovers, Sirinat National Park offers beaches and marine life, while a boat trip through Phang Nga Bay (including the famous James Bond Island) reveals staggering limestone karsts rising from jade‑green water.
You’ll also want to dive into the atmosphere after dark.
Phuket’s night markets pulse with energy. The Sunday Walking Street market (Lard Yai) along Thalang Road lights up with food, artisans and local culture. Chillva Market thrills with live music, food stalls, and fashions; Naka Weekend Market has sprawling arrays of clothes, souvenirs and street snacks; Bangla Road offers a wilder, buzzing nightlife scene. And don’t miss Phuket FantaSea for a spectacular show of theatrical Thai culture, special effects and entertainment. Add to that local cuisine, fresh seafood, spicy curries, desserts like mango sticky rice and roti, and you’ve got a feast for all senses.
Booking a local LGBT friendly tour guide is a brilliant idea.
They know the hidden gems off the beaten track, places not in the travel books. They help you understand Thai culture deeply, temple etiquette, history, myths, meanings behind rituals. A guide also solves tricky logistics: knowing when to visit Big Buddha to avoid crowds, the best time for boat rides, which markets are open when, how to travel safely. Most importantly, a friendly guide makes your trip personal and memorable. Sharing local stories, introducing you to food stalls locals love, helping you negotiate prices fairly, and showing you the real heart of Phuket, not just the postcard version.
Phuket is very welcoming to the LGBT community.
Patong Beach and especially the Paradise Complex are at the heart of the gay nightlife, with cabaret shows, bars, discos and restaurants where people from all over the world come together. Smaller queer‑friendly spaces offer more relaxed evenings. The annual Phuket Pride event is growing, celebrated with street parties, performances, and a strong sense of community. Thai people in Phuket are generally warm, respectful and acceptant. For LGBT travellers this means you can relax, be yourself, and enjoy both the vibrant nights and the quiet moments with confidence.
Whatever you choose to do in Phuket, it will be a unique and memorable experience of a lifetime, with a Guides4me guide, who will look after you and by the end of the trip you’ve made a best friend.
